Spinal Manipulation and Headaches

Cervicogenic headache describes headaches caused by issues in the neck and represents 18% of all reoccurring headaches. Spinal manipulation is an effective form of treatment chiropractors use to address mobility issues in the neck.  Nevertheless, there remains little consensus on the appropriate dosage of spinal manipulation to achieve maximum benefits for cervicogenic headaches.

In a 2018 study, scientists conducted a massive study involving 256 chronic cervicogenic headache patients. They want to identify how many chiropractic adjustment sessions you need to minimize the number of recurring headaches. For 6 weeks, the subjects use real or sham chiropractic treatments and released from care. Results showed that patients who received 18 sessions during the trial had the best results with about twelve fewer headache days over the following year compared to other groups.

If you suffer from headaches, consider seeking advice from a chiropractor to determine if cervical dysfunction is contributing to your headaches and find out if you are a prospect for spinal manipulative therapy.
